Find and download new fonts
Before we learn how to install fonts to Word, let’s take a look at how to find different fonts for your computer.
To do this, you should open your browser. It doesn’t matter which search engine you use. Let’s analyze the situation using the example of Google search.
In the search bar, enter the following phrase “download Word fonts for Mac”. Now, go to any site you like and choose the options you like.
When you find the font you want to install, you need to download the file with that font.
Please note that the installation files must be in the following formats:
- .ttf
- .ttc
- .otf
The 1st way to upload fonts to Word
All installation files are downloaded to the “Downloads” on your Mac. So, to find them, you should go to the “Finder”:

Find folders or files with fonts among all your other documents in this window. In our case, each font was loaded into a separate folder:

Open the first font. There are two files inside the folder:

The “.txt” file is a text document with an example of what this font looks like.
And another document is already in “.ttf” format – this is an installation file we need.
Click on this window twice or using the right mouse button and open the document through the context menu:

A new window will open for you, and here, you click on the “Install Font” line:

Now, let’s go to Word to check if the font is installed. Type any text you want in your document:

Next, highlight all the text. This can be done quickly with the “Ctrl + A” key combination. When all of our text is highlighted, proceed to search and select fonts.
To do this, open the drop-down font window in the top menu:

Here we have a selection of all the fonts that are installed in Word by default and those you installed yourself.
When you find the font you need, click on the line with its name once:

After completing these steps, you will see that the text you highlighted has been converted to a new style:

Find new font through search
If you don’t want to spend too much time searching for the desired font among the huge selection of installed styles, you can find a new font thanks to the search. For this purpose, repeat the previous steps.
Step 1. Highlight the text

Step 2. Point to the font window

Step 3. Enter the first letter of the desired font
The line will proceed to fonts that start with that letter. Now, you can find the desired font faster, instead of scroll through this entire list by hand.
The 2nd method to install fonts to Word
For this method, we need to find the Fonts program on your computer. You can find it through the “Finder” and the search box:

Enter the word “Fonts” in the search box, and now open the shortcut with the desired program:

All the fonts installed on your computer will be displayed here. The highlighted lines are the fonts that are loaded onto your device. And the gray lines are files available for download. You can find the font you need and click the “Download” button in the upper right corner:

This was a very easy way to add fonts to Microsoft Word. The disadvantage of this method is that the standard program offers a limited number of fonts.
If you want more variety, or you need a specific type of font, then use the previous method of how to install fonts to Word.
