You had to face a situation where you know for sure that the information on the site of your interest changed (an article or a new photo was added, or something else happened), but the browser does not show this for some reason.

This is due to the cache. The cache stores “intermediate” data allowing you to speed up the loading of web pages. Simply said, some page elements are downloaded to the cache. And when accessing the site in the future, this data is not downloaded from the Internet, but from a “special” memory area. And in some cases, when the content of the page changed, but its old elements are still stored in the cache, it took some time for you so that you can see the changes.

This is especially common for those involved in the development of sites or other activities related to the web. A new page seems to have been added to the hosting, but there are no visible changes in Chrome…

To remedy this situation, you need to clear the cache. How to do it?

There are several ways to clear the cache in Chrome on Mac. In addition, this process can be automated. But first things first.

How to clear the cache in Chrome on Mac: the procedure through the menu and keyboard shortcuts

You can use the standard browser tools to clear the cache in Chrome.

To do this, follow these steps:

    01. Click on the icon in the upper right corner of the working window of the browser.

    02. Select “History” (2 times) in the drop-down list appeared.

    03. Click on the link “Clear browsing data” on the left side of the new window.

You will see a dialog box to delete some information from the cache. There are 2 tabs in the window: “Basic” and “Advanced”. You can clear the cache on any of them. The “Advanced” tab is designed for deeper cleaning (not only files from the cache but also passwords, data from autocomplete forms on sites, etc.).

To clear the cache you should:

    1. Select the time period for which data will be deleted. It is recommended to select “All time” for high-quality cleaning.
    2. Check the box next to the “Cached images and files” item.
    3. Press the “Clear data” button.

Cleaning may take from several seconds to a couple of minutes (depending on the amount of data stored).

How to clear the cache in Chrome on Mac with the help of shortcuts

The actions described above can be performed through the menu at the top of the working window and using a keyboard shortcut.

To clear the cache in Chrome on Mac, select “Chrome” -> “Clear Browsing Data” in the upper left part of the working window (in the browser opened).

Next, you will see a familiar window where you need to select a time period and not to forget to check the box next to “Cached images and files”.

A keyboard shortcut will also help to clear the cache in Chrome on Mac (more precisely, to open the dialog box). To do this, press Shift+Cmd+Backspace in the Chrome window opened. And you will see a familiar window in which you can delete unnecessary data.

How to clear the cache in Chrome on Mac automatically

If you surf the Internet a lot and for a long time, it makes sense to set up automatic cleaning of the cache. It will be carried out after each closing of Chrome.

For this purpose, you should download an additional extension from the official online store. It is free of charge, and it is very easy to install it in the browser.

To configure automatic cleaning of the cache in Chrome, follow these steps:

    01. Go to the official Chrome Web Store here.

    02. Enter the title of the extension “Close & clean” in the search box and press “Enter”.

    03. Click the “Add to Chrome” button in the window appeared to install it.

    04. Then, click “Add Extension” in the dialogue box appeared.

The extension will automatically be added to the browser, and it will be ready for running. If everything was successful, you will see an extension icon

on the right of the address bar of the browser.

To enable automatic cleaning of the cache in Chrome each time during its closing, click with the right mouse button on the icon and select the “Options” item.

It is recommended to check the boxes, as it is shown on the picture below in the “On Close” category of the window appeared.

That’s it! Now, you will not need to do regular cleaning. The extension will do it for you each time when closing the browser.

So, you have learned all the ways how to clear the cache in Chrome on Mac. You do not need to have special knowledge of this. Everything is done quite simply and quickly. And you don’t have to waste time for it at all – just install a special extension, and your browser’s cache will be automatically cleared every time when closing the browser.
