Skype is one of the most popular instant messengers for voice and video communications. Millions of people communicate live when seeing and hearing each other on the webcam with the help of this program for many years. If you want to join them, but don’t know how to turn on the webcam on Skype, please check out our instructions!
Connect and configure the camera for Skype
First of all, you need to connect the webcam to your computer.
To do this, unwind the cable and connect the USB plug to the corresponding input on the PC.
If you have installed Windows 7 or 10, the system itself will find and install the driver. But if necessary, you can do it yourself, of course, if you have a disk with the necessary software or you can “google” it
After the computer saw the camera, you can proceed to configure it on Skype. For this purpose, launch the messenger, and then click on the three dots in the upper right corner.

A small menu will open. Click on “Settings”.

A window with all Skype settings will pop up.
If you want to know how to enable the webcam on Skype, go to the “Audio & Video” tab.
Here are the settings for the microphone and camera, and a picture received from it displays here as well.

You can see yourself, but only if Skype recognizes the camera and its lens is not covered by a protective mechanism or simply not sealed.
If your camera has a cover on the lens, so just lift it to see if the video signal from your webcam is being sent to the messenger.

How to test your microphone and sound on Skype
So you found out how to switch the camera on Skype. But what if the picture is available, but without a sound? Check the microphone settings in the same section.
If both the headphones and the camera with a built-in microphone are connected to your computer, but you want to communicate using the webcam, please activate its microphone.
Below are audio output settings. You can switch from speakers to headphones and vice versa, decrease or increase the volume of the voice of a person you are talking to.
Then you have an opportunity to test the audio, i.e. if the melody of the incoming call is heard or not.
And at the end of the settings in this section, there is an inscription “Make a free test call”. To call to the Skype bot and check if your voice is heard when communicating via voice or video, click on this inscription.

The automatic answering bot will warn you that after the beep, the conversation starts recording.
Say a few words, after which you can listen to the recording and understand whether a live person you are talking to will hear you when communicating on Skype or not.
So, the setup of the webcam for communicating via Skype is completed.
